Hi everybody!
How are you doing?
This class we are going to read an article about something that happened
in 2008, so we are going on revising the simple past tense. (page 14
)Students´Book. But there´s also an introduction of Past Continuous and
some prepositions, as well.
First we are going to answer the questions (C)
Let´s focus on the past continuous: an action that was in progress in the past and is formed using
was/were + verb +ING
Mary was watching a video.
We were planning our holidays.
When we combine the simple past and the past continuous we use WHEN or WHILE.
While she was reading a book, Peter was painting a picture. (two actions in progress at the same time in the past)
While I was studying Past Continuous,my phone rang.(one action in progress in the past that was interrupted )
The first action is a long action - it lasted for a period of time. We use the past continuous.
The second action is a short action that has interrupted the first. So for this we need past simple!
The regular past simple is formed using 'ed' but you can use irregular verbs, too.
So, let´s find and highlite the Past Continuous in the text. Remember? WAS/WERE + VERB+ING.
After that, we are going to underline the prepositions AT-IN-ON in the article. Now, complete exercise 3.
Then we are going to read Grammar bank page 128 -2B and you can practice doing some exercise on page 129 : 2A (past simple) and 2B (past continuous).
Take care and stay safe
Regards,
Mrs. Valeria
